Germanna Community College dental hygiene students and volunteer dentists saw 18 patients and provided nearly $8,000 worth of free care February 2 during “Give Kids a Smile Day” at the F. Lloyd Moss Free Clinic in Fredericksburg. A single patient received $1,000 worth of care.

“Another patient we saved from going to the emergency room, which would have likely been a $5,000 visit to hospital,” said Misty Mesimer, dental hygiene program local coordinator and dental assisting program director at Germanna.

The free clinic provided care to 18 patients. Services provided included: oral exams, X-rays, fluoride, dental hygiene therapy sealants, fillings, and tooth removal.

The college’s dental program is based at GCC’s Locust Grove Campus in Orange County.
