After a national recruitment effort, the VCCS is pleased to announce Beth Lunde will become the Virginia Community College System’s next Associate Vice Chancellor for Human Resources.

Lunde brings more than 30 years of HR expertise to the role, along with dual professional certifications — Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) and SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP). She joins the VCCS System Office from Tidewater Community College, where she serves as associate vice president for Human Resources. Earlier in her career (also at TCC), she held roles as assistant director of Human Resources and employee benefits manager. Before entering higher education, she worked as a human resources coordinator for Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools and as a benefits communication supervisor for Dominion Enterprises.

“Ms. Lunde’s breadth of experience and knowledge of Virginia’s Community College System is remarkably vast and her thoughts on innovation parallel our own” said Dr. Tommy Wright, Senior Vice Chancellor for Finance & Operations. “I am convinced these things, combined with her enthusiasm for the job, an unrivaled skill set, and a real aptitude for identifying genuine talent, make her uniquely qualified to continue moving our HR initiatives forward.”

Lunde earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management from James Madison University, a Master of Arts in Education and Human Development with a concentration in Human Resource Development from George Washington University, and a certificate in Professional Human Resource Management from Old Dominion University.

“I am humbled, honored, and excited to have been selected as the Associate Vice Chancellor for Human Resources Services,” Lunde said. “I look forward to supporting our system and our colleges by advancing HR practices that strengthen our workforce and contribute to student success and our mission of providing accessible, high-quality education and workforce training across the Commonwealth.”

She is expected to assume her new responsibilities on April 25, 2026.
