Virginia’s new state law legalizing possession of small amounts of marijuana has generated a lot of news coverage this summer. But, when it comes to Virginia’s Community Colleges and facilities, federal laws trump state legislation, and those federal laws clearly continue the prohibition of marijuana on VCCS property.
“Possession, use and distribution of marijuana remains prohibited on all VCCS property and at all community college functions under the Drug Free Schools and Communities Act and the Drug Free Workplace Act,” said VCCS Chancellor Glenn DuBois. The prohibition affects VCCS students and VCCS employees alike.
