“Institutions of higher education are in danger if they fail to keep up with the technological and demographic forces sweeping the globe. Virginia’s Community Colleges are creating a model for advancing education and driving economic prosperity for Virginia.”
On February 7, VCCS Chancellor David Doré headlined a webinar for the regional leadership organization RVA757 Connects, explaining the VCCS’s transformational plan to serve more learners from high school through adulthood to meet Virginia’s need for a more skilled workforce.
Virginia’s Community Colleges remain committed to transfer-bound students but are devoting new efforts to recruit from and serve the needs of the 3.2 million adult Virginians who face limited job prospects because they lack post-high school credentials.
Community colleges need to focus on what Dr. Doré calls the “new majority of learners” that includes adult learners, veterans or military-affiliated, working Virginians who may have some college experience but no higher education credential or degree, and working parents.
