With higher education costs skyrocketing both across the commonwealth and nationwide, Virginia’s Community Colleges remain a smart choice for students who are beginning postsecondary education or returning to college mid-career.
Virginia’s Community Colleges are meeting an affordable tuition goal: tuition will not exceed half of the average cost to attend a public four-year institution in Virginia.
For the 2017-18 academic year, in-state tuition and mandatory fees for our colleges will be approximately $4,508 for two semesters of full-time study (15 credit hours per semester).
Tuition rates set by the State Board for Community Colleges for the 2017-2018 academic year (adopted May 2017) are as follows:
- Virginia Resident – $150.25 per credit hour
- Out-of-State Resident – $347.85 per credit hour
A tuition differential is charged at Northern Virginia, J. Sargeant Reynolds, John Tyler, Germanna, Piedmont Virginia, Thomas Nelson, Tidewater, and Virginia Western. In addition, most Virginia Community Colleges have some mandatory local student fees. Please consult your individual community college for complete information about tuition at your college and any local parking or student activity fees that may apply.
