From Ellen Davenport, VCCS assistant vice chancellor for governmental relations. Excerpts from her report of Friday, Jan. 10, 2020:

The G3 initiative is in the hands of the members of Higher Education subcommittees of the House and Senate money committees, and it is especially important to reach out to them often in the next few weeks. Each subcommittee will make recommendations that will be part of the overall budget bill package for the Senate Finance and Appropriations Committee and the House Appropriations Committee on February 16.

Members of the Higher Education subcommittee of the Senate Finance and Appropriations Committee are senators Locke (chair), Howell, Saslaw, Norment, Ruff, and Edwards.

Members of the House Appropriations Higher Ed subcommittee are Carr (chair), Hayes, Hurst, Reid, Jones, Rush, Austin, and Cox.

More than 2,700 bills and resolutions have been introduced at this year’s legislature so far, and our VCCS team is currently following more than over 150. The list of those bills is available here

We will be reviewing and analyzing these bills; if you hear any background or have thoughts on any of them, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
