Take Five with Chancellor Glenn DuBois

Virginia's Community Colleges' chief executive reacts to the findings included in a recently published JLARC report.

New Outreach Campaign Aims to Help Virginians FastForward Their Lives and Careers

The campaign is designed to attract people to short-term training programs that will prepare them for high-demand career opportunites.

An employer’s perspective: Why I hire credentialed workers

NRCC alum Mike Watson knows what he’s talking about when it comes to hands-on technical skills.

During the 2016-2017 academic year, 4,268 Virginians earned high-demand industry-recognized credentials from Virginia’s Community Colleges’ training programs; that’s nearly triple the number who earned them the year before.
• Of that total, just more than half (2,173) benefited directly from the New Economy Workforce Credentials Grant program, which meant they had to pay no more than one-third of the program costs.
• By pursuing industry-recognized credentials, students can qualify for promising careers in weeks or months instead of semesters and years, and without incurring large amounts of student debt.
• The New Economy Workforce Credential Grant Fund provides covers two-thirds of the tuition for students who are enrolled in a workforce training program designed to fill in-demand jobs in their home region.
