Teams and spectators at a two-day basketball tournament at Patrick Henry Community College next month will pause to remember two VCCS basketball coaches who died in separate auto accidents in September.
PHCC coach Kenny Wade died September 5. Wade had been with the PHCC basketball program since 2007. He was 45.
Thomas Nelson Community College coach Armand Brown died in an auto crash September 15, two days shy of his 40th birthday. Brown started his coaching career at TNCC in 2001.
Organizers at PHCC have designated the tournament Nov. 10-11 the “Coach Wade Memorial Basketball Tipoff.”
Just prior to the game Saturday when the TNCC Gators and PHCC Patriots will meet on the court, a moment of silence will be observed to honor Wade and Brown’s memory. A Wade family member and representative from TNCC will be on hand.
