PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SPOTLIGHT: VCCS OPD receives awards
Submitted by Dr. Abigail Stonerock, Office of Professional Development
The VCCS Office of Professional Development recently picked up two important awards:
- The League for Innovation in the Community College John and Suanne Roueche Excellence Award was presented to the VCCS Office of Professional Development team (Gareth Bromser-Kloeden, IT and Web Design Specialist; Sandy Gharib, Coordinator of Professional Development; Nancy Harris, Programs Manager; and Dr. Abigail Stonerock, Director of the Office of Professional Development) for the redesign and resulting impact of the VCCS Classified Staff Leadership Academy and the VCCS Faculty and Administrators Leadership Academy. These academies were selected for excellence awards based upon the outstanding quality, rigor, currency, and relevance of the curriculum; the qualifications and instructional effectiveness of the master teachers who teach the curriculum; and the exceptional organization and delivery of the program. The award honors those who exemplify exceptional teaching and leadership, recognizing outstanding faculty, staff and leaders in higher education; celebrating those in the profession whose work, and whose willingness to share that work, inspire new and experienced educators and carry on the legacy of the community college movement.
- The League for Innovation in the Community College Innovation of the Year Award: Established more than 30 years ago, the League’s Innovation of the Year Award recognizes significant educational innovations, which reflect capstone achievements and the spirit of innovation, and experimentation upon which the League was founded. The award is designed to recognize innovative programs, practices, partnerships, policies, and activities that improve the ability of institutions to serve students and the community, and to honor the faculty, staff, and administrators who have created and implemented them. Granting this award provides a venue for showcasing these innovations and the dedicated community college educators who strive for excellence on a daily basis. For the highest standards of excellence in educational innovations, and based upon excellence in quality, efficiency, cost effectiveness, replication, creativity, and timeliness, this award was presented to Dr. Abigail Stonerock, Director of the Office of Professional Development, for the redesign and resulting impact of the VCCS First Year and Adjunct Faculty Institute.
Congratulations to the OPD team, and thanks for all you do!
