The One-Stop partnership in the Prince William SkillSource Center (PW SSC) won the National Association of State Workforce Agencies (NASWA) William J Harris Award. The William J. Harris Award was established to recognize excellence in the field of equal opportunity (EO). The PW SCC partners worked together to develop innovative programs in the workforce center.
The PW SCC implemented several initiatives aimed at serving the diverse Prince William County Area. The PW SCC offers basic translation services in over 100 languages and developed materials in various languages to better serve individuals who do not speak English. Various services are provided for individuals with limited English proficiency (LEP). The LEP services offered include English classes, GED courses, citizenship preparation classes and LEP job readiness classes. The LEP services help individuals reach their goals. The LEP workshop is a creative approach to serving customers with limited English.
The PW SCC holds a quarterly open house called Community Connections. The open house combines customer relations, operations, resource management and professional development. Community Connections bring together employers, job seekers, local citizens, elected officials, local education leaders, and government agency managers to network in an informal setting. The event is so popular, it has 60-90 attendees.
The Prince William SkillSource Center continuously strives to provide diverse and innovative programming aimed at assisting job seekers to reach their goals. PW SCC is a locally certified full service SkillSource center and a Virginia Workforce Network Certified One-Stop. The Prince William SkillSource Center’s is a valuable asset to the Prince William community. Through diverse programming, customer service, partner collaboration, and continuous quality improvement the center is helping area job seekers find success.
