Dr. Charlie White Named President of Wytheville Community College

RICHMOND-- Dr. Charlie White, of Radford, will become the next president of Wytheville Community College, announced Glenn DuBois, chancellor of the Virginia Community College System.

Currently vice president for instruction and student services at New River Community College in Dublin, Dr. White will assume his new post May 22, 2006.

Wytheville Community College board chair Craig Allison said, “We are extremely pleased with the process and the outcome. The search produced more than 50 candidates and the college community interviewed four outstanding finalists. We believe Dr. White is just the right leader to help our college more effectively respond to unmet community needs. He has the board's unanimous support.”

“Charlie will be a tremendous member of the Wytheville community,” said Dr. DuBois in making the appointment. “He has outstanding people skills, and he knows this business inside and out,” he said.

Dr. White has been vice president for instruction and student services at New River since 2000. He also served as interim vice chancellor for academic services and research in the Virginia Community College System office during 2005, and was assistant dean at New River from 1999-2000. He chaired the division of arts and sciences at New River from 1983-1998, and was a professor of biology and chair of the math and science division prior to that. He joined New River as a professor of biology in 1971.

He holds a doctorate from the University of Tennessee and bachelor’s and master’s degrees from East Tennessee State University. He also holds an associate’s degree from Hiwassee College in Tennessee.

Dr. White and his wife, Peggy, look forward to making their home in the Wytheville area. Wytheville Community College serves the city of Galax and the counties of Bland, Carroll, Grayson, Smyth (Marion and eastward), and Wythe in southwest Virginia.
