| For more information, please contact: Susan Hayden (804) 819-4979 or | For immediate release: December 15, 2006 President Selected for Germanna Community College RICHMOND – A community college leader from Florida will become the next president of Germanna Community College, announced Glenn DuBois, chancellor of the Virginia Community College System. Dr. David A. Sam, of Pace, Florida, has been selected president for Germanna and will assume his new post on or before March 19, 2007. He is currently vice president for academic affairs at Pensacola Junior College in Pensacola. “I’m very pleased to announce that we have found a top performing community college leader to take the helm at Germanna Community College,” said Dr. DuBois in making the appointment. “Dr. Sam will play a dynamic role in leading Germanna Community College into the future.” “The search generated more than 85 applications and we are confident that we have selected the right candidate in Dr. Sam to continue the success we have experienced under Dr. Frank Turnage,” said Germanna Board Chair Ray Smith. “The Germanna College Board is very much looking forward to working with Dr. Sam.” Dr. Sam has been vice president for academic affairs at Pensacola Junior College since 2003. Prior to that, he was academic dean and dean of faculty at Jackson Community College in Jackson, Michigan, from 1998-2003. He was also interim dean of academic and student services at Oakland Community College in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan from 1996-98, where he had also served as director of enrollment management and as coordinator of enrollment services from 1990-1996. He holds a doctorate in higher education from Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan, and also has a master’s degree and a bachelor’s degree from Eastern Michigan University. Dr. Sam will succeed Dr. Turnage, who retires this year after serving as Germanna’s president for 20 years. # # #
