Once a year, the State Board for Community Colleges invites community college board members and foundation leaders from across the Commonwealth, along with presidents of each Virginia community college, to join them at an Annual Meeting in November, which this year will be from 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14, through 12:00 noon, Wednesday, Nov. 15. Dr. Gaudiani, Professor at the George Heyman Center for Philanthropy at New York University and author of The Greater Good: How Philanthropy Drives the American Economy and Can Save Capitalism, will speak at the opening luncheon on Tuesday, Nov. 14. In the afternoon, she will also facilitate an interactive workshop between teams of college and foundation leaders.
Ms. Suzanne Schaeffer, counsel with the firm of Patton Boggs, LLP, will follow with a session on advocacy skills development.
On Wednesday, Nov. 15, also at The Boar’s Head Inn, at a special breakfast session beginning at 7:45 a.m., Dr. Robert Holsworth, dean of the college of humanities and sciences at Virginia Commonwealth University, will share some analysis of the 2006 congressional elections and their implications for Virginia. The morning will be rounded out with additional sessions focusing on innovative events, building financial capacity through endowment management and planned giving, and building capacity among faculty.
