Molly Ward


Molly Ward was appointed to the State Board by Gov. Terry McAuliffe in January 2018.  She currently serves as Treasurer for the City of Hampton, having previously served in the position from 2002 to 2008. Prior to her election to Treasurer in November 2017, she served as Secretary of Natural Resources for the Commonwealth of Virginia as a member of Governor Terry McAuliffe’s cabinet, in the Obama Administration as a Special Assistant to the President and Deputy Director of Intergovernmental Affairs at the White House, and as the Mayor of the City of Hampton.

She has served on numerous boards and commissions in membership and leadership positions, including the Virginia College Building Authority, the Virginia Outdoors Foundation, the Hampton Roads Transportation Planning Organization, the Hampton Roads Planning District Commission, the Hampton Roads Partnership, the Hampton Roads Military and Federal Facilities Alliance, the Fort Monroe Authority, the Chesapeake Bay Program Principal’s Staff Committee, the Chesapeake Bay Commission, The Foodbank of the Virginia Peninsula, the Hampton Roads Red Cross, the Peninsula Fine Arts Center, and Girl’s Inc. She was most recently appointed to the boards of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation and the Virginia Community College System. She is a life member of the NAACP.

Molly spent 15 years in private practice prior to before entering public service and remains an active member of the Virginia State Bar.
