A special endowment fund was created in 2014 by the VFCCE to honor Dr. Susan S. Wood’s 40 years of service to Virginia’s Community Colleges.

The Susan S. Wood Professorship for Teaching Excellence will recognize a VCCS faculty member who demonstrates faculty excellence, dedication to students, and academic leadership of the type reflected throughout Dr. Wood’s extensive career.

The Professor will participate in key activities at major VCCS events, strengthening and supporting faculty members and new faculty in particular.

Dr. Wood began her career as a charter faculty member at J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College in August of 1973, and retired as vice chancellor for academic services and research for the entire VCCS in April 2014.

She served as president of two national professional societies and won many awards for teaching excellence, including the Outstanding Faculty Award from the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia.

The Professor will receive a $3,000 honorarium for their services during the academic year.
