Robert W. Harrell, Jr., served as vice president for Commonwealth Initiatives and vice president for the Virginia Center for Innovative Technology (CIT) before his retirement.  He is a member of the Godwin Society as a former member of the State Board for Community Colleges, appointed by Governor Charles S. Robb. He served as vice chair of the State Board during his term. In 2009 he was honored as Hampton Roads Local Hero by the Bank of America Neighborhood Excellence Initiative and continues to be active in his community and with his alma mater, the College of William and Mary, where he received a bachelor’s degree in business administration.  He earned an MBA from Old Dominion University and a Ed.S. in Higher Education from William and Mary. He is the co-author of two books and has published articles on technology and community colleges.
