The Chancellor’s Award for Teaching Excellence (CATE) acknowledges one teaching faculty member annually who distinctly represents the teaching excellence found at VCCS college(s). The award provides the recipient with a VCCS stole suitable for wearing with academic regalia and $5,000.
The George B. Vaughan Leadership Award for Outstanding Adjunct Faculty recognizes up to five outstanding VCCS adjunct faculty members annually who exhibit excellence in leadership, teaching, and dedication to student success.
The SCHEV Outstanding Faculty Awards (OFA) recognize excellence in teaching, research and service among the faculties of Virginia’s public and private colleges and universities. The VCCS is proud of the increasing numbers of community college faculty receive this award.
The New Horizons Excellence in Education (EIE) Awards acknowledge the enhancement of student success within the VCCS. Student success is enhanced by an array of strategies: pen and paper as well as mouse and keyboard, collaborative work, classroom assessments, and dynamic discussions prompted by thoughtful questions. All of these strategies, and others, can find a home and be celebrated in these awards. See 2016 EIE winners here. Within the EIE awards there are three categories:
- Best Practices in Teaching Face-to-Face, Online, and Hybrid,
- Improving Student Success – Institutional, and
- Innovative Use of Technology in the Face-to-Face and Online Classroom.
The New Horizons Excellence in Education Awards are undergoing revision for the 2017 conference; more information will be posted about the 2017 awards when available.
The VCCS Office of Professional Development is pleased to offer an array of scholarship opportunities to our administrators, faculty, and staff.
The Chancellor’s Commonwealth Professors Program recognizes and supports teaching excellence.
The Chancellor’s Faculty Fellowship award prepares full-time teaching, administrative, and professional faculty for top-level management and instructional positions within the VCCS.
The Susan S. Wood Professorship for Teaching Excellence recognizes a VCCS faculty member who demonstrates faculty excellence, dedication to students, and academic leadership reflected throughout Dr. Wood’s extensive career.
