Faculty & Administrators Leadership Academy 2017

On behalf of Chancellor DuBois, the Office of Professional Development is pleased to announce that the 2017 Faculty and Administrators Leadership Academy will be held September 19 – 22, 2017 at Arboretum III in Richmond, VA.

The 2017 academy focuses on the leadership development needs of current supervisors who aspire to senior leadership positions within the VCCS, and who are committed to advancing the VCCS mission through effective leadership and supervision.

Call for nominations: The academy is by invitation only, and Presidential nomination only. VCCS presidents are invited to nominate one faculty member or administrator per campus for this professional development opportunity. The 2017 Faculty & Administrators Leadership Academy will enhance the readiness of current supervisors who aspire to senior leadership positions within the VCCS, and who are committed to advancing the VCCS mission through effective leadership and supervision. If you would like to be considered for nomination, please contact your college president.

The 2017 Academy Features:

  • Direct mentorship from experienced and respected senior leaders within the VCCS
  • Experientially-based learning seminars focusing on solving problems and leveraging opportunities relevant to Virginia’s community colleges
  • Skill development through behavioral assessments, panels, facilitated discussions, and case analysis
  • Outstanding academy instructors and course facilitators

Quick Facts:

  • Limited to one faculty or administrator person per Virginia community college campus by presidential nomination only
  • The VCCS Office of Professional Development will support the tuition for one attendee per campus, including three (3) nights’ lodging for each participant whose campus is fifty (50) or more miles from the site of the Academy and Tuesday dinner, Wednesday lunch, Thursday lunch, and Friday lunch. Colleges are responsible for supporting participants’ travel costs, including Wednesday’s dinner, Thursday’s dinner, meals on the road and mileage. The Hyatt Place provides complimentary breakfast and free parking to all hotel guests.
  • Participants should come prepared to be fully engaged in an immersive, educational atmosphere

Timeline:

  • August 1, 2017: Deadline for college president to submit confirmed nominee name to the Office of Professional Development
  • August 8, 2017: Deadline for confirmed nominees register online
  • August 15, 2017: Deadline for participants to make hotel reservations

Registration and Hotel Information:

Upon successful completion of the online registration, participants can make their hotel reservations at the Hyatt Place, located at 201 Arboretum Place in Richmond, across the street from the VCCS headquarters at Arboretum III.

Phone (804) 560-1566, ask for the Reservations Department, and request the VCCS September 2017 FALA room block for arrival September 19, departure September 22. Participants will need to provide a personal credit card number to guarantee the reservation; the charge will be transferred to the VCCS master account upon check-in. Individuals will only be billed for incidentals or no-shows.

Please note: Coverage is limited to employees whose primary campus is 50 or more miles from Arboretum III. Employees of J. Sargeant Reynolds and John Tyler campuses are not eligible for overnight accommodations.

Hotel reservations must be made by Tuesday, August 15, 2017.
