VCCS Faculty and Administrators Leadership Academy 2017

Sept 20-21, 2017

The 2017 academy focuses on the development of VCCS leaders through the practical application of theory and real world problem solving. Participants will expand upon their professional role and college campus knowledge to understand the VCCS at a macro and micro level, culminating with an immersion project in which participants will work in teams to address a VCCS challenge at the direction of the chancellor.

Who May Apply

VCCS teaching, professional, and administrative faculty may apply. College employees must be nominated by their college president, Shared Services Center employees must be nominated by the director of the SSC, and VCCS employees must be nominated by their vice chancellor.

With the redesign of the program, previous FALA attendees may be nominated if deemed appropriate by their president, director, or vice chancellor.

*One attendee per college campus, one for the SSC, and two for the VCCS system office.

What You Will Learn

Building upon your professional experience, you will learn about current issues in Virginia’s higher education landscape, VCCS specific challenges, governance, data, state policy awareness, the role of the VCCS in economic development, college finance, legal issues, HR considerations, strategic advancement, and the roles and responsibilities of VCCS leadership.

Your Level of Investment

Academy participants will attend a two day working seminar in Richmond, five monthly webinars, and New Horizons 2018. This is a full year program with tangible “deliverables” and active participation required.

Leadership Commitment

By nominating participants, college presidents, SSC, and VCCS leadership agree to meet with selected nominees for the leadership interview and periodically meet with participants as a mentor to provide professional insight as to the direction of the immersion project. Leadership also commits to providing participants with the opportunity to attend all FALA meetings.
