Workforce programs should effectively prepare a workforce that is able to meet the needs of existing and expanding businesses and industries throughout the Commonwealth, the needs of new companies attracted to Virginia, and the needs of companies in new and emerging industries. Our colleges focus on the employer and the workplace, offering instructional programs that prepare incumbent, upcoming and displaced employees for jobs in the current and emerging occupations. Virginia’s Career Readiness Certificate (CRC) is a portable credential that certifies employability skills in applied mathematics, locating information and reading for information. Community colleges are responsible for the oversight and administration of the assessments and certificates which are based on ACT WorkKeys.
The Workforce Development Services (WDS) of the Virginia Community College System teamed with the Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) to conduct a joint analysis of occupation and industry clusters in 19 regions across Virginia. The analysis provides methodological linkage between instructional programs, occupations, and industries. The findings are provided as a public service to promote economic and workforce development in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
