Medication Aide Training for Assisted Living Facilities

Six of Virginia’s community colleges have been approved by the Virginia Board of Nursing to offer the 68 hour Medication Aide Training Program and the 8 hour refresher course for Assisted Living Facilities.  Successful completion of this program is one of the requirements for medication aides at Assisted Living Facilities before they apply to become registered with the Board of Nursing.

This is a new requirement as of July 1, 2008.  (This training does not apply to those individuals administering medications in Child Day Care Centers, Adult Day Care Centers, Mental Health Facilities, and Juvenile Justice/Corrections Facilities.)

Additional information on medication aides at Assisted Living Facilities can be found on the Board of Nursing website, http://www.dhp.virginia.gov/nursing/default.htm.
