Virginia’s community colleges, in a partnership with The Income Tax School®, now offer online courses in tax preparation. The colleges are meeting the training needs for IRS test preparation, required continuing education or career opportunities.
The IRS will be regulating tax preparers. Starting September 2010, tax preparers must register with the IRS. Then, starting in 2011, all registered preparers will have three years to pass a competency test and will be required to complete 15 hours of continuing professional education (CPE) to continue to practice. To learn more about the IRS requirements, click on Tax Preparer Regulation.
The courses offered by the colleges through The Income Tax School’s ® Comprehensive Individual Tax Course cover all topics that will be on the first two IRS tests. In addition, by taking a continuing education course or seminar, professionals can learn or enhance their understanding of taxes and complete required continuing education.
Courses are available for professionals to grow in the tax preparation field. Millions of Americans pay a Tax Professional to prepare and file their tax return every year. Congress continues to make more changes to the tax code. These changes make taxpayers even more confused and frustrated and they are seeking out the help of Tax Professionals more than ever.
• As the number of taxpayers continues to grow, so does the need for qualified Tax Professionals.
• With the recent changes to the U.S. economy, it’s more important than ever for taxpayers to claim all of the credits and deductions due them and pay no more than the exact amount of taxes they owe.
