May 18, 2007 - Regent University has signed a statewide guaranteed admission agreement with the Virginia Community College System (VCCS) that will promote transfer and ease transition to the university for Virginia community college graduates.
The guaranteed admission agreement allows community college students who complete an associate’s degree with a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher to transfer to Regent University with junior standing.
“We are looking forward to welcoming transfer students from Virginia’s outstanding community colleges,” said M.G. Robertson, chancellor and president of Regent University. “We believe they will find a combination of spiritual and intellectual depth that will challenge and excite them as they prepare for their futures.”
“Through this agreement with Regent, we are building vital relationships and establishing Virginia’s Community Colleges as an on-ramp to a four-year college degree and a high-quality, affordable option for families seeking access to higher education. We are proud to work with Regent University, knowing that our partnership will benefit students and families across Virginia,” said Glenn DuBois, chancellor of Virginia’s community colleges.
To be eligible for guaranteed admission, students must complete a transfer-oriented associate’s degree, must have earned a grade of “C” or better in each community college course applicable to the degree program, and must have declared an intent to transfer to Regent University.
Students who transfer under the new agreement will be eligible for specifically designated scholarships from Regent University, and will otherwise enjoy the same rights and responsibilities as native Regent University students.
The guaranteed admission agreement is the latest of a total of 20 statewide agreements adopted over the past two years with public and private four-year institutions. Additional comprehensive agreements are pending. Statewide agreements are detailed on the web at http://www.myfuture.vccs.edu/GuaranteedTransfer/tabid/257/Default.aspx.
