State Board Agenda for May 2007 Business Meeting

RICHMOND – The State Board for Community Colleges will convene its regular meeting on Thursday, May 17, 2007, at 9 a.m. on the 15th Floor of the James Monroe Building, 101 N. 14th Street, Richmond.
Committees for the State Board will meet on Wednesday, May 16, also in the James Monroe Building. The Academic, Student Affairs and Workforce Development Committee and the Budget and Finance Committee will meet at 1:30 p.m.; the Facilities Committee and the Audit Committee will meet at 3 p.m.; the Personnel Committee meets at 3:30 p.m. and the Executive Committee will meet following the Facilities and Personnel committees.
Agenda items for the regular board meeting on May 17 include the election of a new chair and vice chair for the 2007-08 fiscal year. Other agenda items include:
Academic, Student Affairs & Workforce – The State Board will take action on new certificates in airframe maintenance and in powerplant maintenance at Blue Ridge Community College; on a new associate’s degree in engineering at Central Virginia Community College; on a new associate’s degree in fire science technology at Southside Virginia Community College; on new associate’s degrees in emergency medical services, in fire science technology and in paralegal studies at Thomas Nelson Community College; and on a new associate’s degree at Virginia Western Community College in culinary arts. Policy manual changes regarding computer competency requirements will also be discussed.
Facilities – The State Board will take action on the six-year capital outlay plan. Other items on the agenda include approval of a modular classroom building at Lord Fairfax Community College; preliminary design for a science and technology building at Piedmont Virginia Community College; and discussion of a public-private education facilities (PPEA) proposal at Northern Virginia Community College.
Budget and Finance – The State Board will consider approval of increases in student activity fees at five community colleges, a parking fee increase for Northern Virginia Community College, and approval of a student center fee at Tidewater Community College.
Personnel Committee – The State Board will adjust faculty and presidential salary scales based on General Assembly action and Dateline 2009 goals.
Chancellor’s Report – Outstanding Faculty Award recipients Dr. Patricia Lisk, GCC professor of nursing, and Dr. Charles Errico Jr., NVCC professor of history, will be recognized. Dr. David A. Sam, president of Germanna Community College since March 2007, will also be introduced, and Chancellor Glenn Dubois will discuss his 2006-07 goals.
