RICHMOND – The State Board for Community Colleges will convene its regular meeting on Thursday, Sept. 17, 2009, at 9 a.m. in the 15th floor Godwin-Hamel Board Room in the James Monroe Building, 101 N. 14th Street, Richmond.
State Board Committees will meet on Wednesday, Sept. 16 in the James Monroe Building. The Academic, Student Affairs and Workforce Development Committee and the Budget and Finance Committee meet at 1:30 p.m.; the Facilities Committee and the Audit Committee meet at 3 p.m.; the Personnel Committee meets at 3:30 p.m. and the Executive Committee meets at 5 p.m. Agenda items for the regular business meeting on Thursday include:
Academic, Student Affairs & Workforce – The State Board will consider approval of a new associate’s in applied science degree in emergency medical services for Lord Fairfax Community College and a new associate’s in applied science degree in dental hygiene for Thomas Nelson Community College. The board will also receive reports on expanding the Middle College program to two new colleges – Thomas Nelson and Patrick Henry – and on expanding the Career Coach program to provide five pilot coaches specializing in manufacturing, engineering and technology areas (MET Coaches).
Budget and Finance – The State Board will consider approval of bonds through the Virginia College Building Authority to complete financing for a Workforce Training and Technology Center on the Parham Road Campus of J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College.
Facilities – The State Board will receive a report on capital outlay projects and will consider schematic designs for buildings at Virginia Western, Northern Virginia, Thomas Nelson, and Tidewater Community Colleges.
Chancellor’s Report – The Chancellor’s Task Force on Environmental Sustainability will present its report. In addition, the new strategic plan for 2010-2015 will be discussed, as well as updates on the Virginia Education Wizard project, the web-based tool that provides career and education planning information for students.
