RICHMOND – The State Board for Community Colleges will convene its regular meeting on Thursday, July 16, 2009, at 9 a.m. in the 15th floor Godwin-Hamel Board Room in the James Monroe Building, 101 N. 14th Street, Richmond.
State Board Committees will meet on Wednesday, July 15 in the James Monroe Building. The Academic, Student Affairs and Workforce Development Committee and the Budget and Finance Committee meet at 1:30 p.m.; the Facilities Committee and the Audit Committee meet at 3 p.m.; and the Personnel Committee meets at 3:30 p.m. Agenda items for the regular business meeting on Thursday include:
Budget and Finance – The State Board will consider approval of budget priorities for the 2010 General Assembly Session. The board will also approve guidelines for a tuition differential investment pool, and will consider approval of use of bonds through the Virginia College Building Authority for three student centers and an infrastructure project at Tidewater Community College.
Academic, Student Affairs & Workforce – The State Board will consider policy revisions relating to credit requirements for diploma and certificate programs. The board will also receive information on Gates Foundation grants to assist students in developmental education; will receive final recommendations from a Student Success Course Task Force; and will receive an update on the Virginia Education Wizard. The board will also receive information on the Microsoft Elevate America project, which provides free technology training to displaced workers.
Facilities – The State Board will consider a real estate exchange between JSRCC and the City of Richmond to allow for construction of Biotech Park roadway improvements. The board will also consider designs for a Russell Hall renovation at SWCC and the Woodbridge Campus Phase III project at NVCC.
Personnel – The State Board will consider adoption of an administrative document regarding employee participation in 403(b) plans. The board will also receive information on VCCS participation in the Knowledge Center training platform, and will receive information on faculty diversity.
Chancellor’s Report – Chancellor Glenn DuBois will also introduce recipients of several faculty and staff recognition programs.
2009-2010 Chancellor’s Faculty Fellowship recipients include Kevin Hamed, assistant professor of biology at VHCC; Cynthia Lofaso, assistant professor of psychology at CVCC; and Chad Patton, dean of planning and institutional effectiveness at SVCC.
2009-2011 Chancellor’s Faculty Professors include Sharon Burnham, instructor of history at JTCC; Kevin Handley, professor of psychology at GCC; and William Rodner, professor of history at TCC.
Chancellor’s Fellowship for Classified Staff awards go to Christine Williams-Foster at TNCC and to Anita Newhouse at GCC.
