Committees for the State Board will meet on Wednesday, March 19, also at the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center. The Academic, Student Affairs and Workforce Development Committee and the Budget and Finance Committee will meet at 1:30 p.m.; the Facilities Committee and the Audit Committee will meet at 3:00 p.m.; the Personnel Committee meets at 3:30 p.m. and the Executive Committee will meet at 4:30 p.m.
Agenda items for the regular board meeting on March 20 include:
Budget and Finance – The State Board will consider approval of tuition and fee rates for 2008-09. The board will also hear an update on budget actions of the 2008 General Assembly Session.
Academic, Student Affairs & Workforce – The State Board will take action on new associate’s degrees in diagnostic medical sonography and in biotechnology at Northern Virginia Community College. Policy manual revisions to general education requirements and to requirements for honorary degrees will be discussed. The board will also hear updates on Virginia’s Achieving the Dream efforts and on state workforce reform.
Facilities – The State Board will take action on the schematic designs of a student center at Danville Community College; an expansion of Southwest Virginia higher Education Center at Virginia Highlands Community College; a public safety building at Southside Virginia Community College; Phase III of the Loudoun Campus at Northern Virginia Community College; and the William F. Snyder Auditorium at Wytheville Community College. The board will also consider the design of Heartwood, Southwest Virginia’s Artisan Gateway, at Virginia Highlands. The board will receive updates on the 2008-10 capital outlay budget and on capital outlay projects.
Personnel Committee – The State Board will consider a policy that implements a Code of Ethics for members of the VCCS community. The board will also consider a proposal to increase funding for the Chancellor’s Classified Fellowship program.
