Hotel Roanoke Room Reservation Lottery

Winners Announced!

Click here to view this year’s winners of the Hotel Roanoke room reservation lottery. An email with complete instructions for claiming reservations will be sent to all winners Friday, January 13, 2012. If you did not win you will not be notified.

Please remember that this lottery is not for a free room, only for a reservation at Hotel Roanoke. VCCS policy provides for one night’s lodging for each VCCS employee. To avoid out-of-pocket costs for the second night, we encourage sharing a room with a colleague so that both nights can be covered.

About the Lottery

The Hotel Roanoke room reservation lottery system was created in an effort to make room distribution at Hotel Roanoke as equitable as possible, providing bona fide registrants with several weeks to apply, followed by a random drawing. Please note this lottery is not to win a free room.

Years ago when the VCCS used a first-come, first-served approach to reservations, all rooms were snatched up within the first two hours. Faculty unable to call during that narrow window because they were teaching were completely out of luck. Add to that a number of those who did manage to book rooms ended up canceling their reservations anyway, at which point the room left our block so not only did no VCCS person end up occupying it, it also made it more difficult for us to negotiate as many rooms as possible when the time came to negotiate the next hotel contract.

How does it work?

**The Hotel Roanoke Room Reservation Lottery is now closed. Thank you to everyone that entered! **

We will hold a lottery for reserving rooms at the Hotel Roanoke & Conference Center starting Friday, December 2, 2011 and running through Tuesday, January 10, 2012. You must be registered to participate—another good reason to register early! The form will be visible as a link on our
New Horizons front page on Friday, December 2, 2011.

Please do not contact the Hotel Roanoke. All rooms are handled through the room reservation lottery system.

Winners are notified via email, and then have another two weeks to claim their room reservations. This system has worked very well for the past few years and as a result, we now have more rooms at Hotel Roanoke than ever before.

What if I don't win?

All overflow rooms are at the Sheraton Roanoke Hotel. Reservations open until February 28th. Call (800) 325-3535 or (540) 563-9300. The hotel has been completely renovated and upgraded. Rooms are $99/night with free high speed Internet and parking included, and a standard 72-hour cancelation policy. In case of booking difficulties, please contact Jamie Goetzinger at the Sheraton Roanoke and she will be happy to assist you.

We will also have a dedicated shuttle service running between the Hotel Roanoke and Sheraton Roanoke for the duration of the conference. Reservations at the Sheraton Roanoke are being accepted now. Please be sure to ask for the VCCS New Horizons room block.
