 Digital Recording

VCCS is proud to announce the ability to record Distance Learning Classes or general video conferences is now available.

This is especially useful for sites that are/were unable to connect to a video conference due to equipment or network issues.  If this happens during a Distance Learning Class the students could simply view the archive of the conference before the next class and not fall behind in their work.  This will also be useful for people who were unable to attend an important meeting that was held over video conference.

The VCCS has purchased two RSS 2000’s: digital recording devices that have the capability to record, archive, and stream multimedia content on demand.  These RSS units will allow us to record 4 conferences at one time, any 2 of these can support H.239 (People + Content) dual video recording.

During our pilot program for the Fall 2007 Semester, all recorded conferences will be archived and saved locally on the RSS devices.  They will remain on the devices until there is no more storage space available, or until the end of the semester when all archives will be deleted.  It will be the responsibility of the main video contact at each college to request and retrieve these video archives and distribute to the appropriate party.

Important Note: This new service is initially being offered as a pilot program during Fall 07 term and we make no guarantees on the availability or quality of service during this pilot phase.  With your patience and cooperation, we hope to fine tune this service during the Fall term and iron out any wrinkles so we can offer this as a formal enterprise service beginning Spring 08.

Recording requests will be handled on a first come first serve basis; however, the recording of Distance Learning Classes does have priority over other requests.  To request a conference recording, submit your request via IssueTrak or contact VCCS Client Services at 804-423-6757 or email videosupport@vccs.edu

To setup an account on the RSS units, please send a request via Issuetrak with the subject “RSS 2000 Account Request”.
