The Faculty Diversity Program was developed to create opportunities for graduate students to teach courses at a VCCS college while in graduate school. The program matches university students with community colleges in their local area. Students will teach a course this fall and will receive mentorship from a full-time VCCS faculty member.
To be eligible to participate, the student will have a Master's Degree and appropriate course work in the subject area where they plan to teach. Students will be paid the regular adjunct rate and mentors will receive a stipend for their service. Minority students are encouraged to apply. With this valuable teaching opportunity, students will become more competitive for professorships at any college or university after they graduate.
The VCCS will create a database that will inform participating students of future openings within the System. Several colleges and universities have committed to participating in this program and more are being added as we move forward.
